June was National Homeownership Month, and we are celebrating by honoring the hard work that our borrowers put into achieving their homeownership dreams.
In 2023, Alfonso and Araceli (pictured) were referred to Self-Help Federal Credit Union in San Jose to get prequalified for a loan. While we weren’t able to prequalify them at the time, we were able to provide guidance, help them establish credit, and open an account for them to save toward their down payment. This year, they were able to accomplish their goals and purchase a home in Modesto, CA, with a loan through Self-Help. Congratulations, Alfonso and Araceli!
Purchasing a home may be easier than you think! Give us a call at (833) 438-0304 or visit us online at self-helpfcu.org/homeownership to learn more about our low to no down payment requirements and flexible underwriting.

Self-Help staff and board members celebrating the GGRF award.
At Self-Help, we believe that economic justice and environmental justice are interconnected. This is why we are proud to be part of the coalition Climate United, which was recently awarded $6.97 billion from the Environmental Protection Agency through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) to expand the benefits of the clean energy transition to all. To learn more about how we are financing the adoption of clean energy across our communities, check out self-helpfcu.org/climate-united.

Our communities make Self-Help great, which is why, each year, we award $1,000 scholarships to community-centered students who are pursuing higher education. Xitlaly Mendoza of Mesa, WA, (pictured) is a University of Washington student who is planning to double-major in Sociology and Law, Societies, and Justice to pursue her dream of becoming an immigration or human rights lawyer. Her goal is to create systemic change to improve the quality of life for underrepresented populations. She also hopes to write a book about her experiences as a first-generation student with agricultural-working parents. Congratulations to Xitlaly and all our incredible 2024 community scholarship recipients!
